Imagine a man stuck in a hole, praying to be pulled out, but refusing to let go of the heavy rocks in his pockets. That is often how we approach our character defects. We hate the pain they cause, yet we find comfort in them because they are familiar.
Today, we ask ourselves: Are we entirely ready to let God remove these defects?
We cannot serve two masters. We cannot ask God to renew our spirit while we secretly finance our old habits or lend our name to the “enterprises” of our past life. We have to choose.
Readiness is a posture of the heart. It’s saying, “God, I don’t know who I will be without my anger/fear/pride, but I trust You enough to let you take it.”
