There is a massive difference between “trying” to recover and “committing” to recovery. “Trying” leaves a back door open. It keeps a “Plan B” in your pocket just in case things get too hard. It says, “I’ll give this God thing a shot, but I’m keeping my hands on the wheel just in case.”
Committing burns the ships. It creates a point of no return.
When we make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, we are committing our way. We are saying, “God, You are the driver. I am the passenger. I’m not grabbing the wheel, even if we go through a storm.” The only requirement for this journey is a desire, but for that desire to bear fruit, it must ripen into total commitment.
Trust is the action verb of commitment. It means we stop looking for loopholes and stop bargaining with God. We trust that His way—even when it involves pain or waiting—is the only way that leads to life. You cannot walk two paths at once. Today, choose one.
