Imagine a pilot flying across a vast ocean. They don’t just set the course once at takeoff and then take a nap for ten hours. They are constantly checking their instruments and making small, micro-adjustments. If they don’t, the wind and drift will push them hundreds of miles off course by the time they reach the other side.
Our spiritual life works the same way. That is why we continue to take personal inventory. We “consider our ways” every single day. We look at our motives, our words, and our actions. Did we drift into resentment today? Did we veer into dishonesty? Did we let fear take the wheel for a few hours?
We avoid getting entangled in outside issues because we have enough work to do on our own inside issues! When we spot a drift, we turn our steps back immediately. We don’t wait for a crash to correct the course. The daily inventory is the tool that keeps us safe, preventing a bad day from turning into a bad life.
