Addiction and despair go hand in hand. For years, we operated on a deficit of hope. We woke up dreading the day, driven only by our cravings or our regrets. Even in early recovery, we can sometimes feel like we are just trudging through the mud, gritting our teeth to get by.
But true restoration is not just the absence of bad habits; it is the presence of joy and peace. Notice that the verse says these things come as you trust in Him. Our belief that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us isn’t just a mental exercise. It is an active, daily trust. When we stop trusting in our own failing willpower and start leaning entirely on God, a remarkable shift happens.
The pressure comes off. We don’t have to fix the whole world or even our whole lives by tomorrow. As we trust, God begins to fill the empty spaces inside us. He fills them so completely that the hope doesn’t just stay inside it overflows. We become people who can carry hope to others because our own cup is finally running over. Trust births overflow.
