It is terrifying to let someone look through your closets. We all have junk we have shoved into the dark corners of our lives—old resentments, hidden fears, and selfish motives. We spend so much energy trying to keep the doors locked so nobody finds out who we really are.
But healing cannot happen in the dark. We have to be willing to invite God to bring His searchlight into the basement of our souls. Asking God to “search me” is a brave and dangerous prayer. It means we are finally ready for an honest self-examination.
God doesn’t shine His light to shame us or to point out how dirty the room is. He shines His light to help us clean it up. He exposes the “offensive ways” not to condemn us, but to lead us out of the trap and into the “way everlasting.” Honesty invites healing. Don’t be afraid of the light today.
