In our past life, we spent a lot of energy trying to exalt ourselves. We tried to look important, we tried to be right, we tried to be in control, and we tried to be the “big shot.” We were climbing a ladder of ego that was leaning against the wrong wall. And inevitably, we ended up humbled by our own mistakes and failures.
We are learning the reverse path: Humbly asking Him to remove our shortcomings. We stop trying to climb the ladder. We choose the low road of humility. We admit we don’t have it all together.
We learn to stand on the quiet confidence of God’s grace rather than the shaky foundation of our own prestige. When we stop trying to prove how big we are, God lifts us up to a place of true dignity. Being “lifted up” by God is far more stable than trying to prop ourselves up with pride.
