We all have a “secret place” in our souls. It’s that locked room in the basement where we shove our shame, our past mistakes, our trauma, and the things we don’t want anyone not even God to see. We think that if we keep the door locked tight enough, we are safe.
But the scripture tells us that God wants to teach us wisdom in that secret place. He can’t heal what we won’t reveal.
This is why a fearless moral inventory is so liberating. It is the act of unlocking that basement door. It invites God into the dark, dusty corners of our lives not to judge us, but to clean house. We respect our own autonomy by taking responsibility for our own inventory. We stop worrying about what our neighbors are hiding and focus on getting honest with ourselves. Wisdom cannot enter until truth opens the door.
