We all have things that are heavy on our hearts; resentments, fears, disappointments, and confusing emotions. In the past, we didn’t know what to do with these feelings, so we “poured out” our stress into a bottle, a pill, a gambling habit, or a toxic relationship. We looked for refuge in things that eventually turned on us and destroyed us.
Recovery offers a new, safer refuge. We come to believe that God is a safe place where we can dump the contents of our hearts without being judged or rejected. He can handle your anger. He isn’t offended by your fear. He isn’t confused by your confusion.
Recognizing God as the ultimate authority doesn’t mean He is a distant dictator. It means He is a loving Father who wants to hear the truth from His kids. Trust grows when we get honest. You don’t have to clean up your emotions before you talk to Him. Just pour them out like a bucket of water. Empty the container so He can fill it with peace.
