Think of a musical instrument, like a violin. Lying on the floor by itself, it makes no sound. In the hands of a toddler, it makes a screeching noise. But in the hands of a master, it makes a symphony. The instrument hasn’t changed; the hands holding it have changed.
Recovery is about readiness to change hands. It is picking ourselves up and placing ourselves in the hands of the Master. We say, “God, I have been brought from the death of addiction to the life of recovery. I used to be an instrument of destruction, causing pain to everyone around me. Now, play Your music through me.”
We remember that we are just the instrument, not the Musician. We offer every part our mind, our hands, our wallet, our time to be used for His righteousness. We become available to be used for good, creating harmony where we used to create chaos.
