We spend so much of our lives trying to climb the ladder. We try to prove our worth, defend our reputations, and aggressively demand what we think we deserve. We exhaust ourselves trying to lift ourselves up, only to find that the higher we climb on our own ego, the further we eventually fall.
In the Kingdom of God, the physics of success are reversed: the way up is down. When we humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings, we stop striving. We stop trying to be the general manager of the universe.
Humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less. It is the quiet confidence of knowing you are loved and flawed at the same time. When we take the lower seat and willingly embrace our dependence on God, He steps in and does the heavy lifting. Humility positions us for grace, and God’s grace will lift you higher than your pride ever could.
