Everyone wants to be “lifted up.” We want to be lifted out of depression, out of debt, out of trouble, and out of pain. We spend so much time trying to climb the ladder, fighting for status, and trying to prove our worth to the world.
But in God’s kingdom, the elevator only goes up when we bow down.
The way up is down. We must become entirely ready to have God remove our defects of character, and that requires a crushing blow to our ego. We must humbly ask Him to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. We maintain clear boundaries by knowing who is God and who is not (hint: we are not Him).
When we get low, we get real. We stop pretending we are the general manager of the universe. And it is only when we are in that posture of humility that God can finally reach down and lift us up—not to a place of arrogance, but to a place of stability and peace.
