As we close out this month, we return to the very core of what a restored life looks like. A life ruled by addiction and dysfunction is a life completely ruled by the ego. The constant, exhausting loop in our minds was always: What do I want? How do I feel? What can I get from this person? How does this affect me? True freedom looks like finally taking our eyes off ourselves.
It is stepping out of the exhausting, never-ending race of selfish ambition and vain conceit. When we stop trying to prove how important we are, we can step off the stage, sit in the audience, and actually cheer for someone else. We suddenly have the energy to see how important the people around us are.
Valuing others above ourselves doesn’t mean becoming a doormat with no boundaries; it means becoming a servant with a secure identity. It means recognizing the immense, God-given worth of every person we interact with. Humility makes room for grace, and grace is what will carry us safely into tomorrow.
