Resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It keeps us stuck in the past, replaying old hurts over and over.
Freedom comes when we become willing to make amends to them all.
This starts with a list. Not a list of what they did to you, but a list of people we have harmed or held grudges against. It requires us to be “nonprofessional” in our approach—stripping away our defenses and excuses, and simply looking at the relationships that need healing.
Forgiveness doesn’t mean what happened was okay. It means you are no longer willing to let that past event control your future happiness. It prepares your heart to set things right.
