Copyright and Acceptable Use Policy

Effective Date: September 17, 2026
Last Updated: September 17, 2026

This Copyright and Acceptable Use Policy governs the use of content, courses, downloads, accounts, interactive features, names, logos, and other materials made available through RGV Road to Recovery IA.

This policy should be read together with our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

1. Ownership of Website Content

Unless otherwise stated, original content appearing on rgvroadtorecovery.org is owned by, licensed to, or used with permission by RGV Road to Recovery IA.

Protected content may include:

  • Website text;

  • Recovery curricula;

  • Course lessons;

  • Relapse-prevention materials;

  • Family-support materials;

  • Facilitator guides;

  • Meeting materials;

  • Quizzes;

  • Assignments;

  • Worksheets;

  • Prayer and meditation resources;

  • Videos;

  • Audio recordings;

  • Photographs;

  • Graphics;

  • Illustrations;

  • Logos;

  • Page designs;

  • Downloads;

  • Presentations;

  • Forms;

  • Certificates;

  • Software configuration;

  • Original compilations; and

  • Other creative materials.

A copyright notice is not required for content to be legally protected.

Specific authorship, ownership, licensing, or copyright notices appearing on an individual resource control over this general policy.

2. Limited Permission for Personal Use

RGV grants visitors a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable permission to access publicly available website content for lawful personal, recovery-related, spiritual, and educational use.

Unless a specific resource states otherwise, you may:

  • View publicly available webpages;

  • Share a link to an RGV webpage;

  • Print one reasonable copy for your own personal use;

  • Download a resource specifically offered for personal download;

  • Quote a limited portion for commentary, teaching, scholarship, criticism, or discussion when properly attributed and otherwise permitted by law; and

  • Use materials according to a separate written license or program authorization issued by RGV.

This limited permission does not transfer ownership or grant a general right to reproduce, publish, distribute, sell, modify, or create a competing program from RGV materials.

3. Churches, Ministries, Recovery Programs, and Facilitators

Churches, ministries, recovery organizations, housing programs, facilitators, mentors, counselors, agencies, and other groups must obtain authorization before reproducing or distributing protected course materials unless the material contains an express license allowing that use.

Permission to lead or facilitate an RGV program does not automatically authorize a person or organization to:

  • Republish the curriculum;

  • Remove RGV’s name or copyright notice;

  • Sell copies;

  • Create a competing publication;

  • Upload the materials to another learning system;

  • Distribute unrestricted electronic copies;

  • License the content to another organization; or

  • Claim authorship or ownership.

A separate written program license, permission letter, facilitator agreement, or copyright notice may grant additional rights. Those specific terms control for the materials they cover.

Permission requests may be sent to office@rgvroadtorecovery.org.

4. Prohibited Uses of RGV Content

Without prior written permission, you may not:

  • Copy or reproduce an entire course, curriculum, workbook, guide, video, or substantial portion of protected content;

  • Republish RGV content on another website, course platform, application, or social-media account;

  • Sell, rent, sublicense, or commercially exploit the content;

  • Remove or alter copyright, trademark, authorship, licensing, or attribution notices;

  • Present RGV content as your own;

  • Modify content in a manner that creates a misleading impression that RGV approved the modified version;

  • Create or distribute an unauthorized derivative curriculum;

  • Translate and distribute protected content;

  • Scan or convert protected printed materials into distributable electronic files;

  • Share account-restricted materials with unauthorized users;

  • Bypass download, access, printing, or account controls;

  • Upload substantial protected content to an artificial-intelligence system, model-training dataset, searchable repository, file-sharing service, or content-generation platform;

  • Use automated tools to scrape, harvest, archive, or reproduce substantial website content;

  • Use RGV materials to train or improve a commercial or publicly distributed artificial-intelligence model;

  • Use RGV’s names or logos to imply sponsorship, approval, certification, or affiliation; or

  • Use protected content for an unlawful, deceptive, exploitative, or harmful purpose.

Nothing in this policy limits rights that cannot legally be restricted, including qualifying fair use or another applicable legal exception. Whether a particular use qualifies as fair use depends on the specific circumstances.

5. Sharing Links and Brief Quotations

You may ordinarily share a direct link to a public RGV webpage.

Brief quotations should:

  • Be reasonably limited;

  • Identify RGV Road to Recovery IA and the named author when applicable;

  • Include a link to the original webpage when shared online;

  • Preserve the meaning and context of the quoted material;

  • Not imply endorsement;

  • Not disclose confidential participant information; and

  • Not substitute for the original course, curriculum, or resource.

Attribution does not make an otherwise infringing reproduction lawful.

6. Scripture and Third-Party Material

Bible translations, quotations, music, photographs, videos, articles, logos, software, and other third-party materials may be owned by their respective rights holders.

RGV’s ability to use third-party material does not give website visitors permission to reuse it.

Users are responsible for identifying and complying with:

  • Bible-translation quotation policies;

  • Music licenses;

  • Image licenses;

  • Video-platform terms;

  • Software licenses;

  • Creative Commons conditions;

  • Public-domain requirements; and

  • Other third-party rights.

A link to outside content does not transfer ownership to RGV.

7. Names, Logos, and Trademarks

The names, logos, slogans, program names, graphics, and source-identifying materials used by RGV may be protected by trademark, service-mark, copyright, unfair-competition, or other laws.

Protected identifiers may include RGV Road to Recovery IA, Receive God’s Vision, program names, network names, logos, and other branded materials.

You may not use these identifiers in a manner that:

  • Suggests unauthorized affiliation;

  • Implies sponsorship, endorsement, certification, or approval;

  • Creates confusion about the source of a program or service;

  • Misrepresents another organization as RGV;

  • Diverts participants through deceptive branding; or

  • Harms the reputation or goodwill associated with the identifier.

Nominative references identifying RGV must be accurate and must not imply a relationship that does not exist.

8. User Accounts and Course Access

Account and course access is granted to the registered participant unless expressly authorized otherwise.

Users may not:

  • Share usernames or passwords;

  • Allow unauthorized people to use an account;

  • Copy restricted course materials for others;

  • Sell or transfer account access;

  • Circumvent enrollment requirements;

  • Attempt to access administrative areas;

  • Interfere with course progress records;

  • Manipulate certificates or completion records; or

  • Use automated systems to extract course content.

RGV may restrict or terminate access when it reasonably believes an account is being misused.

9. User-Submitted Content

Participants may submit assignments, comments, messages, testimonials, photographs, documents, or other content.

The participant retains whatever ownership rights the participant lawfully holds in original submitted content.

By intentionally submitting content through a feature designed to receive it, the participant grants RGV a limited, nonexclusive permission to:

  • Store the content;

  • Process it;

  • Display it to authorized administrators or facilitators;

  • Review it for program administration;

  • Make technical backup copies;

  • Respond to it;

  • Protect safety and security; and

  • Use it as otherwise reasonably necessary to provide the requested service.

This operational permission does not automatically authorize RGV to publish a participant’s identifiable recovery story, photograph, video, assignment, or testimony publicly.

RGV should obtain separate permission before publicly using identifiable participant content for marketing, fundraising, social media, presentations, or publications.

10. Responsibility for Submitted Content

A person submitting content represents that:

  • The person created it or has permission to submit it;

  • It does not infringe copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other rights;

  • It does not unlawfully disclose another person’s confidential information;

  • It is not knowingly false, defamatory, threatening, or deceptive;

  • It does not contain malware or harmful code; and

  • Its submission does not violate an agreement or law.

Do not submit copyrighted books, articles, photographs, music, videos, course materials, or other content merely because they are available online.

11. Acceptable Website and Program Use

The website, accounts, courses, forms, meetings, and communications may be used only for lawful and intended purposes.

Users must not:

  • Threaten, harass, bully, stalk, or intimidate another person;

  • Exploit or target a vulnerable person or minor;

  • Post sexual, violent, hateful, or unlawfully discriminatory material;

  • Promote illegal drugs or unlawful conduct;

  • Solicit personal, financial, or medical information without authorization;

  • Impersonate another person or organization;

  • Submit false registration, consent, referral, donation, or program information;

  • Send spam, unauthorized promotions, or mass solicitations;

  • Distribute malware or harmful code;

  • Probe, scan, or interfere with website security;

  • Attempt unauthorized access;

  • Collect user information without permission;

  • Record meetings without authorization;

  • Publish another participant’s recovery story or identity;

  • Use the website to develop an unauthorized commercial mailing list;

  • Manipulate analytics, referrals, course completions, or fundraising records; or

  • Use the ministry’s services for fraud, abuse, or exploitation.

12. Artificial Intelligence and Automated Systems

Publicly accessible search engines may index public webpages according to ordinary technical controls.

Other automated collection or reuse is not authorized merely because a page can be viewed publicly.

Without written permission, substantial RGV content may not be used to:

  • Train an artificial-intelligence model;

  • Create a competing curriculum;

  • Build a commercial knowledge base;

  • Generate derivative publications;

  • Populate another recovery platform;

  • Develop a chatbot that represents itself as RGV;

  • Reproduce personalized versions for distribution; or

  • Remove or disguise the source of the content.

A user may not represent AI-generated material as an official RGV resource unless RGV has reviewed and authorized it in writing.

13. Removal and Enforcement

RGV may remove content or restrict access when it reasonably believes that material or conduct:

  • Violates this policy;

  • Infringes intellectual-property rights;

  • Threatens safety or privacy;

  • Misuses an account;

  • Disrupts a program;

  • Violates the law; or

  • Creates material risk to RGV or another person.

RGV may preserve relevant records and cooperate with hosting providers, service providers, rights holders, law enforcement, or legal authorities when appropriate.

Failure to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive the right to enforce it later.

14. Permission Requests

Requests to reproduce, distribute, translate, adapt, publish, display, or otherwise use protected RGV content should be sent to:

office@rgvroadtorecovery.org

Include:

  • Your full name;

  • Organization, if applicable;

  • Contact information;

  • The exact material requested;

  • The proposed use;

  • The number of copies or expected audience;

  • Whether a fee will be charged;

  • The format and distribution method;

  • The territory or geographic area;

  • The requested length of permission; and

  • Any proposed changes or translations.

No permission is granted unless RGV or the applicable rights holder provides written authorization.

Silence or failure to respond does not constitute permission.

15. Reporting Copyright Infringement

If you believe content on the website infringes a copyright that you own or are authorized to enforce, send a written notice to:

office@rgvroadtorecovery.org

The notice should include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature;

  2. Identification of the copyrighted work;

  3. Identification and exact location of the allegedly infringing material;

  4. Your name and contact information;

  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and

  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the applicable right or are authorized to act for the owner.

Knowingly making a material misrepresentation in an infringement notice may have legal consequences.

RGV may remove or disable access to disputed material while reviewing a complaint.

16. Response From the Person Who Submitted Material

If RGV removes user-submitted material in response to an infringement claim, it may notify the person who submitted it.

That person may provide information explaining why the removal resulted from a mistake, misidentification, license, permission, ownership, fair use, or another lawful basis.

RGV may require a legally sufficient counter-notification before restoring disputed material.

RGV is not required to resolve ownership disputes between private parties and may keep disputed material unavailable while the parties resolve the matter.

17. Repeat Infringement

RGV may suspend or terminate accounts belonging to users who repeatedly infringe or are credibly alleged to have repeatedly infringed intellectual-property rights.

RGV may also restrict participation when a person repeatedly submits content without appropriate ownership or permission.

18. No Transfer of Rights

Access to the website, an account, a course, a download, a meeting, or a program does not transfer intellectual-property ownership.

All rights not expressly granted are reserved by the applicable rights holder.

19. Changes to This Policy

RGV may update this policy as its website, programs, materials, technology, or legal obligations change.

The current version will be posted with its effective and last-updated dates.
