In our addiction, we became masters of disguise. We thought we were clever. We thought we were “prospering” as long as nobody caught us. But the scripture tells us that this is a fake prosperity. While we were smiling on the outside, we were rotting on the inside.
Secrets are like mold; they grow in the dark and they eat away at the foundation of our soul. You cannot be spiritually healthy while living a double life.
Real mercy—and real relief—is found only in confession. When we admit the exact nature of our wrongs, we stop the rot. We drag the secret into the light where it loses its power. Our primary purpose is to carry the message of truth, and we cannot carry truth to others if we are living a lie ourselves.
You don’t have to carry the heavy backpack of that secret anymore. Renounce it (turn away from it), confess it (speak it out), and find the mercy that has been waiting for you all along. The shame dies when the secret is spoken.
