If you drive your car and the “check engine” light comes on, you don’t put a piece of tape over it and keep driving. You know that ignoring the warning will eventually destroy the engine.
Our souls have warning lights too spikes of anxiety, flashes of unjustified anger, or the sudden urge to tell a lie to save face. This is why a continued personal inventory is a lifeline. We must consistently ask God to “test and try” our hearts.
Daily inventory keeps us honest and free. It ensures that small offenses don’t mutate into massive resentments. It catches our character defects while they are still just thoughts, before they become destructive actions. When we stay attentive to our own hearts, we protect our recovery and our peace.
