Secrets are the heavy anchors that keep us stuck in our past. For years, we thought that if we just kept our mistakes, our shame, and our bad habits hidden in the dark, they couldn’t hurt us. But the dark is exactly where shame multiplies. Hiding our true selves is exhausting, and it makes us spiritually sick. James tells us that while forgiveness is a transaction between us and God, healing happens in community. When we take the terrifying step of confessing our faults to another human being, the secret instantly loses its power. Dragging our hidden junk into the light is incredibly painful for the ego, but it is deeply liberating for the soul. When we share our struggles with a trusted friend and pray together, we realize we are not uniquely broken; we are just human. Confession connects us to grace, and the prayers of a community are powerful enough to break the chains of isolation. |
