Think of a homeowner who notices a tiny, subtle dark spot appearing on their living room ceiling. They could easily paint over it with a fresh coat of white paint and pretend everything is fine. But if the stain is caused by a slow, leaking pipe hidden deep inside the roof framing, ignoring the root cause will eventually destroy the ceiling, rot the timber, and cause the whole structure to collapse. As we continuously practice self-examination, we face a humbling reality: we are often blind to our own worst errors. We easily justify our bad attitudes, mask our selfishness, or call our control issues "just being responsible." True honesty requires asking God to shine His bright flashlight into the hidden places behind our drywall. When He uncovers those hidden roots of fear and pride, it isn't to shame us, but to fix the leak and safeguard our spiritual recovery from internal rot. |
