One of the most dangerous elements of the human condition is our profound capacity for self-deception. We can spot the pride and selfishness in everyone else from a mile away, but it is nearly impossible to accurately discern our own errors without outside help. Our egos are designed to protect us, which means they expertly mask our true motives. We need God’s gentle but piercing light to reveal our hidden faults —the resentments we pretend we don’t have, the fears driving our anger, and the pride disguised as “helping.” Honest discovery removes these blinders. When we ask God to show us what we cannot see ourselves, we allow deep-rooted issues to finally be uprooted and healed. |
