Over time, the trauma, betrayals, and failures of our past calcified our hearts. We developed hearts of stone to protect ourselves. We built walls so thick we couldn’t feel the pain, but the tragedy was that we also couldn’t feel the joy, the peace, or the love of those around us. God does not ask us to grab a chisel and desperately try to soften our own stony hearts. Behavior modification cannot fix a dead heart. Instead, He promises a miraculous spiritual transplant: He will remove the stone entirely and replace it with a heart of flesh, soft, living, and beautifully responsive. We just have to be entirely ready for the surgery. Readiness invites this profound transformation. When we yield to the Divine Surgeon, we get our lives and our ability to feel back. |
