Addiction makes us the absolute center of our own tiny, miserable universes. We existed entirely to serve our own cravings, demands, and comforts. Recovery shatters that toxic self-obsession. Jesus modeled the exact opposite of our old lives: the King of Heaven came down not to demand service, but to humbly serve others. When we step out of our self-pity and begin to help another struggling human being, our entire perspective shifts. Service is the greatest antidote to self-centeredness. When you use your painful past to offer a listening ear or a helping hand to someone who is hurting exactly like you used to, you find a profound sense of purpose. Serving others doesn’t just help them; it actively multiplies the hope inside of you. |
