There is a paradox in recovery: you can’t keep what you have unless you give it away. After we have had a spiritual awakening, the natural next step is to carry this message to others.
But notice how we carry it—with anonymity and humility. We don’t do it for applause or status. We do it because service is the spiritual foundation of our new life. When we help carry someone else’s burden, our own load gets lighter. We practice these principles not just in meetings, but in “all our affairs.”
Serving others gets us out of our own heads. It reminds us that we are part of something bigger than our own problems.
