 | | | | | “Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.” — Psalm 62:8 | | Picture a hiker caught in a sudden, violent hail storm on a exposed mountain peak. Standing next to a massive, reinforced stone shelter does absolutely nothing to protect the hiker from the freezing elements. To stay safe, the hiker must actually turn the handle, open the door, step inside, and allow the stone walls to surround them completely while the storm rages outside. Coming to believe that God can restore us to sanity is like stepping inside that sturdy stone shelter. However, entering that refuge requires emotional honesty. We cannot hide behind a fake, stoic mask. God invites us to open the door and pour out everything inside our hearts the raw fear, the unspoken doubts, the crushing disappointments, and the secret pain. As we empty our messy inner worlds before Him, we find that He is an unshakeable sanctuary where our souls can safely rest and recover. |
