This is perhaps the most honest prayer in the entire Bible. A desperate father stands before Jesus, needing a miracle for his son. He doesn’t pretend to have mountain-moving faith. He doesn’t put on a religious performance. He simply brings what he has: a mixture of desperate belief and agonizing doubt.
And Jesus heals his son anyway.
This teaches us a profound lesson for our journey. We come to believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us, but that doesn’t mean we never have questions. True faith isn’t the total absence of doubt; it is the willingness to bring that doubt to the one ultimate authority who can handle it.
God isn’t intimidated by your questions. He isn’t fragile. He honors honest faith, even when it is trembling and small. You don’t have to fake a confidence you don’t feel. You just have to be willing to ask for help with the unbelief that is still lingering in your heart.
