Our Biblical Foundation
What We Believe
RGV Road to Recovery IA — Receive God’s Vision — is founded upon the authority of Scripture, salvation through Jesus Christ, and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit.
Our 12 Beliefs explain the Christian convictions that shape our ministry, recovery education, fellowship, personal accountability, spiritual growth, and compassionate service to others.
We believe freedom from addiction is an important part of restoration, but the greater purpose is a transformed life rooted in Jesus Christ.
| The Authority of Scripture We believe the Holy Bible is God’s inspired Word and the authoritative foundation for our faith, teaching, recovery principles, and moral conduct. 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (KJV) 16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. | One God in Three Persons We believe in one eternal God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — holy, loving, just, merciful, and sovereign. Matthew 28:19 (KJV) 19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: | Jesus Christ, Our Savior We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who died for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and is the way to reconciliation with God. John 14:6 (KJV) Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 (KJV) 3. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4. And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: |
| Salvation Through Grace and Faith We believe salvation is God’s gift, received through faith in Jesus Christ, not earned through good works, recovery achievements, or religious performance. Ephesians 2:8–9 (KJV) 8. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast. | Repentance and New Life We believe God calls us to turn from sin, receive forgiveness, and pursue transformed lives through Christ. Acts 3:19 (KJV) Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. | The Transforming Power of the Holy Spirit We believe the Holy Spirit convicts, comforts, guides, strengthens, and empowers believers to grow in holiness and godly character. Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV) 22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. |
| Human Dignity and Worth We believe every person is created in God’s image and deserves compassion, respect, protection, and the opportunity to seek restoration. Genesis 1:27 (KJV) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. | Freedom From Destructive Bondage We believe Christ offers spiritual freedom and that recovery involves faith, responsible choices, renewed thinking, accountability, and practical support. John 8:36 (KJV) If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. Romans 12:2 (KJV) And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. | Christian Fellowship We believe spiritual growth and recovery are strengthened through fellowship, encouragement, prayer, mutual support, and loving accountability. Hebrews 10:24–25 (KJV) 24. And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25. Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. |
| Forgiveness and Restoration We believe God’s grace calls us toward confession, forgiveness, restitution, reconciliation where safe, and the rebuilding of trustworthy relationships. Colossians 3:13 (KJV) Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. | Compassion, Stewardship, and Service We believe Christians are called to care for people experiencing addiction, poverty, homelessness, disability, and other hardships with integrity and faithful stewardship. Matthew 25:35–40 (KJV) 35. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36. Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38. When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39. Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40. And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. | Discipleship and Eternal Hope We believe recovery should lead toward spiritual maturity, service, sharing the Gospel, and the eternal hope promised through Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:19–20 (KJV) 19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Revelation 21:4 (KJV) And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. |
