| | | “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” — 1 John 1:9 | | Picture a heavy, thick wooden door that has been locked shut for years, sealing off a dark, damp basement where toxic fumes have built up over time. As long as that door stays deadbolted, the air inside remains unbreathable and hazardous. But the moment the key turns and the heavy door swings open, fresh air and bright sunlight pour into the dark space, instantly flushing out the poison and filling the room with light. Admitting the exact nature of our wrongs to God, to ourselves, and to another human being turns the key in that deadbolted door. Concealing our secrets keeps us locked in the toxic fumes of guilt and shame. Confession doesn’t inform God of things He didn’t already know; it unlocks our hearts so His cleansing forgiveness can flood in. When we step into full transparency, God faithfully purifies us, washing away the stain of our past and setting us completely free. |
