Serving like Jesus

Dear ,

“The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve…” — Matthew 20:28

One of the greatest miracles of recovery is the shift from being a “taker” to being a “giver.” In our addiction, we were often black holes of need, consuming the time, money, and emotional energy of everyone around us. But as we heal, we discover that our greatest joy comes from serving others.

Jesus, the ultimate example of a servant, showed us that service multiplies hope. When we take our eyes off our own problems and focus on helping someone else, our own burdens feel lighter. Your past struggles are not just “baggage”—they are the tools that allow you to help someone else who is currently where you used to be.

Look for one “lowly” task today that needs doing—washing the dishes, picking up litter, or listening to someone who is lonely—and do it with a servant’s heart.

Jesus, make my life an instrument of humble service. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. You deserve a life free
from addiction

Sincerely,
The RGV Road to Recovery IA Team
